Stone Soup... how it all turned out.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the stone soup activity in class on Tuesday.  Frankly, I was skeptical that working in a big group with some pretty strange materials (from balloons to milk cartons and stickers) would produce anything stunning.  But I learned that that barely mattered.  What mattered is that we all came together to produce something (something awesome, might I add) that we all appreciated and enjoyed creating.

I stole this photo from Shelby Rustin.  Thanks, Shelby.

Our process was simple.  We put all of our materials on the table and everyone gathered around.  We stared at them for a while with variations of "yeah... this isn't going to turn out well" going through our heads.  But once we started to voice what we wanted (I thin our first goal was something "big"), the actual creation process flowed pretty organically.  I suggested we start by putting pieces of cardboard together in abstract ways and, from there, everyone started adding whatever they wanted.  It turned out to be one cohesive art piece that utilized most of our items in one way or another.

Though half of me wishes we could have left it up, the other half of me thoroughly enjoyed kicking the structure down with my groupmates.
