Scandinavian Style

Perhaps I am biased because I am Swedish, but I find Scandinavian design extremely appealing.  Whether it is jewelry or furniture, their design tends to have clean lines, simplified motifs, and versatility.

Rune Tennesmed is a jewelry design company based out of Sweden.  The above photograph exemplifies the sleek, simple, classiness of the modernist Rune Tennesmed design.  RT almost exclusively uses pewter as its main material, sometimes using stones as accents.  The subject of RT pendants usually are a super simplified and modern representation of an object (like the people above) whereas others are abstract.  Either way, clean lines and subtle sheen make something otherwise simple look extremely stylish.

Like Rune Tennesmed jewelry, Scandinavian furniture design is also simple yet stylish.  Rarely does a piece of furniture from Ikea, for example, seem extremely dated because its classic, simple lines and overall designs are so timeless.  Though Swedish furniture is extremely trendy right now, the pieces themselves will remain current for years to come because of this classic, sleek look.  Pieces tend to be practical rather than just decorative.  Additionally, when in the context of an overall interior design, Scandinavian furniture and decor tend to reflect nature (creating this "timeless" feel) in both its materials and use of light, etc.  This can be seen below.

Despite my bias, I think I make a good case for Scandinavian design.  And I haven't even mentioned that fact that, since it is so on trend and doesn't cater exclusively to rich style, it is extremely affordable.  Thank you, Ikea and Rune Tennesmed, so making wonderful, simple design so accessible to the world.  So kind of you.
